About Sanskrit Program

The Department of Sanskrit at SRNMNC is committed to preserving and promoting the rich linguistic, literary, and cultural heritage of ancient India. The department aims to cultivate in students a deep appreciation for Sanskrit โ€” the classical language that forms the foundation of Indian philosophy, literature, science, and spirituality. Sanskrit is offered as a language subject at the undergraduate level, enabling students to develop a strong understanding of classical texts, grammar, and philosophical traditions. The curriculum integrates traditional knowledge with contemporary relevance, allowing students to explore the Upanishads, epics, poetry, and classical drama along with their cultural and ethical significance. The department emphasizes the study of Sanskrit not merely as an ancient language, but as a living tradition that continues to influence modern thought, values, and intellectual discourse. Through activities such as literary competitions, shloka recitations, seminars, guest lectures, and cultural programs, the department fosters linguistic competence, aesthetic sensitivity, and moral awareness among students. The primary objective of the Department of Sanskrit is to promote a deeper understanding of Indiaโ€™s intellectual heritage while nurturing disciplined thinking and cultural consciousness.
